Chinoiserie, a French term, signifying “Chinese-esque”, refers to a recurring theme in European artistic styles since the seventeenth century, which reflect Chinese artistic influences. It is characterized by the use of fanciful imagery of an imaginary China, by asymmetry in format and whimsical contrasts of scale, and by the attempts to imitate Chinese porcelain and the use of lacquerlike materials and decoration.
So my task was to design an suitable and attractive logo for the new brand.
My solution was to blend tradition and modernity together. The square device make the logo look like a chinese seal. Within it, I stylized the name of the brand to make it look modern. Using the color blue to represent stability and cleanliness as the background. The word ‘chinoiserie’ will be in white color to make it legible. Another small square to make the word ‘blu’ stand out. The logo is not only scalable and versatile, it also works harmoniously with corporate branding direction and equally well with black & white color.
I also create a set of fonts to task along the brand.
